Brunei, 5 June 2024 – The Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Executive Committee and Permanent Secretariat attended the opening ceremony of the 15th Konferensi Antarabangsa Islam Borneo, also known as the Borneo International Islamic Conference (KAIB XV), held at the International Conference Centre, Berakas, Brunei Darussalam.

The ceremony was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Chancellor of Universiti Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA). His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

In His Majesty's speech, He highlighted the rapid development of Borneo Island, driven by the establishment of educational centers that have contributed to the region's civilized society. His Majesty also extended congratulations and appreciation to the organizer, Universiti Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) of Brunei, for its collaboration with 10 universities across the Borneo archipelago, the Brunei History Centre, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Brunei, and KUUB.

Representing KUUB at the event were the Honorable Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Deputy Chairman 1; the Honorable Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Abdunnur, M.Si., IPU, Rector of Universitas Mulawarman Indonesia and Deputy Chairman 2; Mr. Mohd Arsy Ardy bin Hardy (Honorary Deputy Secretary); Tuan Haji Fakhzan Haji Buang (Honorary Chief Secretary); Mr. Noor Hakim Ahmad (Cluster Leader of Education); and Ts. Dr. Suhaili Mustafa (Cluster Leader of Innovation). At the end of the event, His Majesty and the royal family visited an exhibition showcasing research posters related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
