KUUB ESTABLISHES INTERNATIONAL CONSORTIUM PARTNERSHIP WITH EASTERN INDONESIA

On 2 March 2024, at Universitas Hasanuddin in Makassar, Indonesia, KUUB officially signed a joint declaration with the Eastern Indonesia Public Higher Education Institution Consortium (KPTN-KTI). The KUUB delegation was represented by Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini, Founding Chairman; Dr. Jee Teck Weng, Honorary Secretary; and Tuan Haji Fakhzan Haji Buang, Honorary Chief Secretary.

The Joint Declaration Ceremony between KUUB and KPTN-KTI, along with the Indonesian Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Workshop, was held at the Unhas Hotel & Convention in Tamalanrea, Makassar. The event was attended by 400 delegates from 50 universities and polytechnics across the Borneo region and Eastern Indonesia.

The KUUB delegation also included notable representatives such as Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Md Mansur, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah; Ms. Anielia Siam, MEITD Deputy Permanent Secretary; Mr. Donald Henry Nohed, Head of the Education Division, MEITD; Dr. Hajjah Lilly Suzana Haji Shamsu, Deputy Rector of Alumni at Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, Brunei; Ms. Nariza Elias from the UPM Serdang Legal Office; and several other distinguished delegates.

This historic event, witnessed by the rectors of Eastern Indonesia’s public universities, marks a significant step in fostering collaboration and innovative efforts within the academic communities of Borneo and Eastern Indonesia.

Additionally, the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc, who also serves as the Secretariat of KPTN-KTI, expressed its intent to join and collaborate with KUUB. This development sets a strong foundation for enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions in these strategically important regions.

In his opening speech, the Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin highlighted the critical role of collaboration among higher education institutions in advancing education and research in Eastern Indonesia and Borneo. "This declaration marks a historic milestone, underscoring our collective commitment to enhancing the quality of education, research, and community service in this region," he stated.
