Rector of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, delivered a speech at the Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Convention at Fugo Hotel, Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan Province, on Wednesday, 8 November 2023.

BANJARMASINSPOST.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN – Delegates from several universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam gathered at the Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Convention held at the Fugo Hotel in Banjarmasin on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

Delegates from several universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam gathered at the convention, which serves as a platform for universities located on the island of Borneo (also known as Kalimantan). From Indonesia, the members include Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), Universitas Mulawarman (UNMUL), Universitas Palangka Raya (UPR), Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN), and Universitas Borneo Tarakan (UBT).

Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri warmly welcomed the formation of KUUB, stating his belief that the consortium will advance the member universities. "We will also involve private universities in this consortium to simultaneously drive progress towards a ‘Borneo Bermartabat,’" he said.

Prof. Ahmad then mentioned that various  programmes have been proposed under KUUB, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research collaborations, and community service projects. "These initiatives will greatly help increase the bargaining power of universities in Borneo," he added.

During the convention, a document exchange ceremony was held between KUUB member universities. Malaysian delegates included Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB), Universiti Putra Malaysia Serdang Campus (UPM), Curtin University Malaysia, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, and Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS). Brunei's representatives included Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali and Universiti Teknologi Brunei. It is worth noting that KUUB was initially declared in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
